FAQs

THINKING ABOUT JOINING US?

Can my child try a class before we commit to lessons?
Of course! We encourage parents to book a free trial group class, via our website so that you can see first-hand whether EMC is a good match for your family. We allow one free trial class in each style, so if we don’t find a good match the first time, we can always try again! *Private music trials are not free, but can be scheduled for a fee.

What if we register and my child changes their mind?
No problem! We require 60 days notice of withdrawal, however during that time, your child may try something else. In many cases, we are able to find a class that is better suited for a child during this time. If not, you are under no obligation after 60 days.

Can I watch my child while they are in class?
You sure can! We have two big screen TVs in our Parent Lounge where mom and dad can sit comfortably and watch the dance, theater and acro/gymnastics classes. We also have a café-style waiting room with viewing windows into the gym. Parents seated in other areas of the building can use an app on their phone to watch classes, as well!

Does my child have to wear the dress code?
Yes. Proper attire for dance and acro/gymnastics prepares the body and mind for the practice that lies ahead. We strive to create a disciplined environment where our students can thrive, and dress code is a huge part of it.

Are performances required?
Sometimes. We have carefully curated numerous performing opportunities throughout the year for different student groups, based on genre of study, age and experience. We encourage parents to follow our lead and participate in the performances that are offered, as they are an important part of your child’s journey. Please inquire about your child’s specific classes and we
will be happy to walk you through it.

NEW TO EMC?

Why isn’t my tuition pro-rated when there are less than 4 lessons in a month?
We calculate the total number of classes offered in the EMC year and divide into equal monthly payment. This way, you always know what to expect, and so do we!

What is the tuition deposit?
When we divide the tuition into monthly payments as explained above, we divide it into one more payment than there are months. The total yearly tuition will always be equal to the number of classes we offer you within the time you are here, including the 60 days’ notice of withdrawal.

Do I have to join the Membership Site?
Only if you want to know what’s going on at EMC! Seriously, the Membership Site is where we store all the information you need to get the MOST out of your EMC Membership. Schedules, calendars, videos, details about performances and events and so much more are clearly organized and available to you in the Membership Site. It’s a rich resource that you will rely on regularly. We encourage you to join…and it’s included in your Membership Fee, so why
wouldn’t you join us there?

How do I know when EMC is closed?
Our “Calendar at a Glance” is printed in the Complete Brochure, which can be downloaded from danceEMC.com, or pick up a physical copy at the studio. The calendar is also available in the Membership Site. Join EMC Families on Facebook for reminders. We also post signs leading up to a closing, and we send emails and texts.

In the case of inclement weather, check EMC Families on FB, email and text.

What if I have to miss a class?
At EMC we have a very generous make-up policy. Check the Complete Brochure for another group class, in an appropriate level that your child, or a sibling might want to try and ask the front desk if we have room to add you in! Open Gym is held once/month and is a perfect make-up lesson for students ages 18 months- 13 years old. Just drop by the front desk or email Kathy
and we will be happy to help. Make-ups must be completed within the same season as the missed class.
